Jewel Janan: About My Paintings
The opening of "A Gift from the Heart" on 27th April at the David Giles Gallery in Fremantle, was a beautiful experience. Thank you to everyone who came along and for the wonderful support I have received. The exhibition continues until Saturday 24th May!
Through the process of preparing for my art exhibition "A Gift of the Heart", I have connected even more deeply with my love of painting and the profound impact it has on my life.
Painting for me, is a Heart-Centered and Spiritual Practice and I embrace an intuitive and immersive approach and mostly do large paintings in acrylics. There are usually many layers to my paintings and I enter a state of deep presence and flow as part of the process that leads to the final painting 'emerging'. In this space of loving surrender, I often feel I am being guided...
I love listening to music when I paint. I will often have one song for a painting that I deeply connect with and I will have that playing on repeat…this helps me enter a state of flow, presence and creativity. My beautiful theme song for the exhibition, is "Grace and Gratitude" sung by Olivia Newton John and you can listen to this on Spotify.
The title of a painting comes not from a place of analytical thinking, but from a heart place of emergence…where I “hear” the name of the painting…if my mind gets in the way, I usually discover that in the next few days as something doesn’t feel right…I then become mindful of that and allow the name to come that resonates deeply with the painting.
I am drawn to explore the symbolism in the paintings and I love experimenting with beautiful colours. I have discovered the joys of painting with the Langridge Acrylics and I find these exquisite to paint with.
I hope my paintings will resonate on an emotional, meditative and healing level and touch the hearts and souls of many people...and help bring peace, love, presence and joy.
I also see my art as a way of “giving back” and this is part of my vision. I am inspired by UK artist Mackenzie Thorpe and his philanthropic giving and am drawn to the art creations of Nancy Reyner with her use of gold leaf. I am deeply grateful to David Giles for all his inspiration and for helping me discover the beautiful gift of painting.
