"A Gift from the Heart"

The opening of my first solo exhibition,  "A Gift from the Heart" on 27th April at the David Giles Gallery in Fremantle, was a beautiful experience. Thank you to everyone who came along and for the wonderful support. Through the process of preparing for my art exhibition, I connected even more deeply with my love of painting and the profound impact it has on my life.

Painting for me, is a Heart-Centered, Spiritual Practice. I embrace an intuitive and immersive approach and mostly do large paintings in acrylics. There are usually many layers to my paintings and I enter a state of deep presence and flow as part of the process that leads to the final painting 'emerging'. In this space of surrender, I often feel I am being guided...

I love music...and listening to music when I paint, often helps me enter into a state of flow, presence and creativity.
I will sometimes have one song for a painting that I deeply connect with...during the latter stages of painting "A Gift from the Heart", it was the beautiful song "Grace and Gratitude" by Olivia Newton John. But there are some paintings where I am drawn to stillness and quiet...where I feel called into a meditative space of silence as the final painting emerges.

The title of a painting comes not from a place of analytical thinking, but from a heart place of emergence…where I “hear” the name of the painting. If my mind gets in the way, I usually discover in a short space of time that something doesn’t feel right…once I am aware of this, the title that resonates deeply with the painting comes usually in the next few days.

I am drawn to explore the symbolism in my paintings and I love experimenting with colours. I am being strongly drawn to the beautiful world of water colour Veil Painting (Anthroposophical) and am excited to be embarking on a journey into this in 2026.

I hope my paintings will resonate on an emotional, meditative and healing level and touch the hearts and souls of many people...and that they will help bring peace and love.

I also see my art as a way of “giving back” and this is part of my vision. I am inspired by UK artist Mackenzie Thorpe and his philanthropic giving, am drawn to the creations of USA artist Nancy Reyner with her use of gold leaf and to the Veil paintings of Ana Victoria Calderon in Mexico. I am deeply grateful to David Giles for all his inspiration and mentoring and for helping me discover the gift of painting.
